UK is world’s worst for letting fossil fuel companies onto protected areas

Governments have allowed oil and gas companies to operate in more than 7,000 “protected” areas around the world. Protected sites are recognised by international agreements but left at risk by weak enforcement. Total area encroached on is bigger than the size of France and includes sites that are vital buffers against climate change.

Così i colossi dell’Oil & Gas mettono a rischio le aree protette

Per la prima volta mostriamo tutti i dati georeferenziati a livello globale tra aree protette e licenze per lo sfruttamento di risorse fossili, associandole ai nomi delle aziende responsabili. Una mole di dati considerevole: oltre 15mila concessioni in 132 paesi. In testa alla classifica delle compagnie fossili a cui sono riconducibili le sovrapposizioni più vaste, c’è l’indonesiana Pertamina con 20 mega concessioni sovrapposte a 47 aree protette. Eni si colloca al nono posto, con 50 licenze sovrapposte a 85 aree protette in 13 Paesi. Un’inchiesta giornalistica condotta dall’Environmental Investigative Forum in partnership con lo European Investigative Collaborations e con decine di testate internazionali, tra cui Domani.

Proyectos petrolíferos y de gas amenazan 7.000 áreas protegidas en todo el mundo

La investigación 'Fueling Ecocide' revela que en 7.000 áreas protegidas en todo el mundo se han concedido licencias para exploración o producción de petróleo y gas.
